Access at the Kit Kat Club

Access bookings here are handled by the theatre's own access team, not by us. Their contact details and the free membership scheme they use are on the theatre's website.

There is no lift in this building at all. The Stalls is the only step-free level, and there is no alternative route to the Dress Circle or the Upper Circle.

Getting to the door

The step-free entrance is not the main one. It is further along the frontage, and you attract a member of staff's attention from outside so they can radio in and open it. It brings you into the vestibule between the foyer and the auditorium.

Steps, level by level

All staircases have a handrail.

  • Stalls: step free, through the side door
  • Dress Circle: 32 steps up from the foyer to the front of the level, and 59 up to the Dress Circle bar
  • Upper Circle: 85 steps up from the foyer
  • Basement bar: 25 steps down from the foyer

Wheelchair spaces

The wheelchair spaces are at the front tables, not at the back of the Stalls. That puts them among the closest seats in the building, in touching distance of the performers in some scenes.

The allocation is small for a production that has been selling since 2021, so book as early as you can.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet in the main foyer. It can be reached without steps from the Stalls, and from nowhere else.

Help on the night

The theatre's access hosts escort customers between the bar and their seats. Take them up on it. The foyer and bars are hard to move through in the hour before the show, and at this theatre that is the hour everybody is in the building.

Hearing and audio description

The Mobile Connect hearing system works in the Stalls auditorium, so that is the level to book if you need it. Audio described performances are also seated in the Stalls, and the theatre recommends Stalls row E for a closer view of the stage.

Assistance dogs

Welcome in the auditorium. Staff will look after a dog during the performance if you would rather not have it with you, arranged in advance or on arrival. If the dog is staying with you, the theatre needs to know beforehand so it can seat you somewhere with room.

Claustrophobia

The theatre asks customers who are claustrophobic to get in touch before they visit, because some parts of the building may not suit them. The seats that draw the complaint are the ones deepest in the Stalls banks, rows G, H and GG.

Booking an access ticket

Accessible seats and companion tickets are booked with the theatre's own access team, using the contact details on its website. The team also runs the free membership scheme you need in order to book those seats online, and an Access Card or Hynt card number is the quickest way to register.

Access FAQs

Is there a lift at the Playhouse Theatre?

No, and there is no alternative route either. Everything except the Stalls is stairs: 32 up to the Dress Circle and 85 to the Upper Circle. Step-free customers come in by a side door and stay on the Stalls floor.

Where are the wheelchair spaces at the Kit Kat Club?

At the front tables, on the flat floor at the edge of the stage, rather than at the back of the Stalls. The allocation is small, so book early, and the theatre's own access team is the place to work out which space suits you.

How do I book an accessible seat?

Directly with the theatre's own access team, through the contact details on its website. They handle accessible seats, companion tickets and the free membership scheme that lets you book those seats online.
